I am no options expert but todays movement in the price drop corresponded to the expiration time for stock options. In theory if I am right and a short bought cheap call options at a low strike price and then decided to cover by exercising these options because they knew a stock was ready to move up this would give them the shares at a cheap price and in the short term on an options Friday would cause a dramatic price drop like today.
