My guess on multiple, meta sub-directories

Ken, if I'm right in my understanding (or guess) of how QP builds the various subdirectories when outputting more than 255 securities from a scan, you're not going to be too happy. Remember this is just based on my observation of QP's behavior. I'll propose a test you can try to find the correct answer.

After QP completes a scan, it runs through the "clean & update" process. I'm guessing this completely rebuilds the subdirectory structure, putting 255 securities in each directory. If this is the case, adding a new security or deleting one would throw off your painfully crafted directory names -- sigh.

I had success with the merge process Andy recommended. It didn't take too long but I wouldn't want to do it every day. Once a week is sufficient for my purposes since I'm only using the large directory of stocks for occasional examinations. The merged directory is presented as a single, large list of securities in the WOW Chart Select window.

How about running a test. Depending on the scan you use to populate the "huge" list, you can add a criteria to increase or decrease the number of stocks. How about something using the last closing price to keep things simple -- say, close(0)>9.99 if you already have all symbols scanned.

Sorry I'm not sure of the answer, but I bet my guess is right. Try it and report back. Inquiring minds want to know.

Carl
