Whatever one wants to say about AMZN's business model, I just want to repeat my observation of a few weeks ago, when I bought two CDs from the company (Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Cherry Poppin' Daddies).

Yes, these CDs shipped on time and arrived as expected. However, I quickly learned that -- with shipping charges -- I paid some 50% more than I would have paid at brick and mortar Best Buy (even the raw CD price was lower at Best Buy).

I won't buy through AMZN again. Not because of my investment position and not because of the quality of their service. Rather, I won't buy through AMZN again because I know I can buy books and CDs cheaper -- and have them sooner -- just by going to a local store.

As sure as night follows day, at least some other consumers will reach this same epiphany over time -- that the convenience of on-line shopping can actually be a costly convenience. When that happens, there will be a leveling off of sales growth and, consequently, a decline in the share price. I know full well that I cannot prove this prediction. But I do know that the one true thing keeping me from shopping AMZN again is the knowledge that I overpaid in my last visit. I'm pretty sure that few people like overpaying for a fungible commodity like books or CDs or software.

P.S. I guess I might use AMZN or another such on-line company when I know that I've got to ship the product anyway, such as to a relative or friend who lives out of state.
