Zander went through how Sun was the driving force in the Internet

LOL. Thats a bit rich don't you think?

Sun has basically gone along for the ride. They really haven't done
much of anything. The companies driving the internet are YHOO, RNWK,
etc.

Sun has done well up to this point because Intel lacked critical
hardware features but that is quickly changing. Unfortunately, for
SUNW fans it looks like Linux is becoming the real threat to Sun
because I believe it will become the UNIX of choice on Intel:

---------------------

infoworld.com

"A version of Oracle8 for Linux on the Intel platform is
planned for shipment by March 1999. Support for other hardware
platforms is likely to follow.
"

"In the last couple of weeks, there's been this huge groundswell for
Linux," the representative said.

"The company expects to sell a "huge volume" of its database
for Linux based on the recent growth of Linux."

-----------------------

Now lets get to Sun's big failure called Java. Windows spawned an
enormous amount of startups and created countless millionaires. Where
is the big Java success story? Is anybody getting rich by creating or
using applets? Various web companies are booming but Java related
companies are in the crapper.

Unfortunately, Sun's Java has been used as a political tool to kill
Microsoft. NC - JavaOS - eSuite was supposed to kill PC - Windows -
Office. This zany strategy never had a chance.

Now the next big Java hope is Jini. It will be interesting to read
the documentation Sun says they will have posted on Monday. I went
to: java.sun.com to read the
specs and guess what, the pdf's for events and transactions don't
work. I get an error when I try to open them with Acrobat reader
3.01.
