Power tools require too much current for Li-ion use. The shift from NiCd to NiMH is still underway and is projected to be the largest and fastest growing market segment for NiMH, from years 2002-2005. There is also an interesting company called Bolder, working on lead-acid cylindrical cells that can deliver huge currents for the power tools market. I don't know how they are faring so far.
