Jim,

<It's now or never....>

....and the answer is never. Just like I predicted two years ago that Cyrix would not survive on its own, the writing is on the wall for AMD. The end game for AMD is to be bailed out from financial ruin by a buyer. Who?? I have no idea. MOT??

AMD can not survive on its own with its current management and strategy. AMD's approach of taking a giant head on was a lost cause from the word go. They didn't have to choose that path but they did. The company I work for is in an identical situation. We are up against the undisputed giant in our industry. We started from virtually nothing to become a formidable competitor. Rather than try to initiate a constant price war, we offered value and concentrated on vertical markets (i.e., select customer segments). We have flourished with this strategy.

AMD, declaring that they would maintain a 20-25% price differential with Intel at any cost was begging for disaster.

Bottom line is that AMD is a company with decent products, no leadership, no strategy, and now because of the last two...no resources.

AMD is finished.
