'Sears tackles Y2K compliance with partners

Realizing that they suffer the greatest year-2000 exposure from their network of suppliers,
corporations are rapidly extending compliance efforts down the supply-chain line.

A prime example of such an effort is national retailer Sears, Roebuck and Co., which is taking the lead in querying
its thousands of suppliers, following tests that show Sears' supply chain as a whole is not as ready as it should be.

"We're very concerned about our supply chain. It's our No. 1 risk because it's outside of our control," said Dennis
Grummer, director of the year-2000 project office at Sears, in Hoffman Estates, Ill.
