Goldsnow,
you & I were "speaking" of commodity prices. Here is a bit taken from June I.I. : (article - One of a Kind by Jonathan Burton - very well written - a need to read)
"That might seem a futile exercise at a time when resources ranging from gold to oil are in the cellar. But,eventually a small commodity holding could prove a lifesaver. Commodities often rise when stocks & bonds fall. (skipping down a few lines now) "No one asset class rules the roost," says Don Phillips President of fund monitor Morningstar.
"These things tend to go in cycles."
Investors with long memories won't be surprised to learn that there have been MANY periods when commodities outdid stocks. For the 25 years ending in June 1995, the Goldman Sachs Commodities Index returned 12.1% annually compared with (only) 10.9% from the S&P 500."
