This is the key paragraph:

"IBM researchers believe that it this technique is proven reliable in
manufacturing, light stamps could become an economical way of making a
variety of patterned optical devices -- such as polarizers, filters and gratings
-- that require only one lithography step. They also hope to develop a
version of the technique for IC fabrication using thin light stamps fused with
highly accurate quartz plates that could be used for multiple lithography
steps. "

It looks to me to be a long way off. The process developed is not even for chip mfg and has not been proven reliable in mfg one litho step products. They "hope to develop" the extension for chip mfg.

That said, I have always felt that the potential for development of new processes that obsolete or reduce the market potential for ETEC's products is a primary reason that it is unwise to pay a high P/E for
ETEC.
