MB. Have you seen the Sybase dribble below? It was an absolutely fantastic turnaround. Last quarter, Sybase posted a $54 million restructuring charge and an $81 million loss and then this quarter, they amazingly beat estimates on flat sales. <G> Hint, Hint, this was their first profit in 5 quarters. This accounting baloney never ends yet the shares rally mindlessly.

Sybase rallies on unexpected profit

Update: 05:46 PM July 17, 1998
EMERYVILLE, CALIF. (CBS.MW) -- Using tight spending
controls, Sybase posted its first profit in five
quarters despite a further decline in its core database
sales.

The company (SYBS) said it earned 1 cent
per share, compared to analysts'
expectations of a loss of 8 cents per share.
Sales inched up to $217.8 million from
$215.5 million, led by growth in service
