I have been able to obtain confirmation from a reliable source that the low cost encryption component referred to in the article from Computer Reseller News, "Top Vendors Envision A Firewall in Every PC", is the WaveMeter. We must realize, however, that no agreements have yet been signed although this news is certainly encouraging.
As far as Intel is concerned, I learned from a conversation back in April that they had shown interest in the WaveMeter as an enhancement to the Intel motherboard. Intel has also tried to develop a low cost encryption devise for the PC but had not been able to get the cost below $10. Furthermore, the Intel devise was one dimensional in that it had no metering capabilities. Since April I have heard nothing and cannot elaborate on the reference made in the article to Intel's current PC security projects, whatever they may be.
I feel like a deal with Wave may not have to be held hostage by an "all or none" vote among a coalition that has apparently not yet been formed. My sense is that HWP and IBM could take the lead in this endeavor and just establish the de facto standard for the industry since they both have a leadership role in the area of computer security (also mentioned in the article) and they are the two most closely linked to Wave. Consequently, a deal with HWP, and possibly IBM, for e-business security could still be announced this month as several sources have hopefully indicated.
