I've been richly blessed in some areas and have found that long term investing (over years, not days are months) in great companies and funds have afforded me much greater returns than many of these get rich quick or pie in the sky schemes.

I must admit a strange fondness for the small and micro-cap arena.
However, it has been my experience that most will lose while chasing the pennies. I have won some and lost some. My experience is that the emotion of greed is the greatest enemy here.

Because of the success of gambling overall in this country, I believe that the pursuit of the pennies will continue to thrive. After all, bottom fishing is fun to many people; and it is certainly good when occasionally we can pull in that trophy bass.

You offer some great insight into how we can improve our chances a lot in the pursuit of finding that small company that may eventually breakout. As much factual information as we can possibly find on a company, its officers, their claims, etc. will give the investor an edge but still can't always overcome lies and deception, a la DF.
