Fred Fahmy, re: <Are you suggesting that this information was not factored into the guidance Intel management provided just a few days ago?>
The discussion wasn't about "Intel guidance", but since you bring it up.
Nine month's ago when the consensus estimates were Q1'98 = $1.00 and Q2'98 = $1.05, I don't remember any guidance that this was way too high? Considering actuals were $0.81 and $0.66 respectively, (a miss of $0.63 for the half from those forecasts), was this obvious and did Intel warn? And back then the consensus for FY'98 was $4.73, think there's any chance?
Seem's like all the warning happens rather insidiously over time and comes from the analysts as they periodically lower or raise consensus estimates.
Now is there some way for an investor to look out three to four quarters with some small amount of intelligence?
That's basically the reasons for the questions I ask about pricing, product mix and market share.
