Yousef - Re: "when is Dresden supposed to be "on line" for production ?"

Formerly, AMD was stating production would begin in early 1999.

However, AMD might have made a fundamental error - it seems that Dresden will be "brought up" as a 0,18 micron wafer Fab for the K7 production.

That implies transferring a "new" process half way around the world using a brand new device - the K7 - as the technology driver.

{=========================}

Likewise, the Company is making a substantial investment in Dresden Fab 30. The business plan for Dresden Fab 30 calls for the successful
development and installation of 0.18 micron process technology and copper interconnect technology in order to manufacture the AMD-K7 microprocessor beginning in 1999.

{=========================}

Well, we have Fab 25 and the original K6 to serve as a guide for AMD technology transfers and start-up success with new devices (K6) as the roto-rooter vehicle.

It may be "Deja Vu All Over Again" for AMD with Dresden !
