It may be marketable as a research tool before it's used clinically. If it is proven that this genetically engineered virus is capable of delivering genetic codes to individual cells, then scientists will be wanting to use it. Many companies are discovering the genetic codes to many, many cell characteristics but they have no way of introducing these codes into the cells. This virus is a possible vector(means of transfer)for these many different codes. Scientists can introduce genetic codes into live cells that are grown in tissue culture, but they cannot( to my knowledge) introduce these codes into very specific cells that are part of a complex organism(us!) Although it's a ways from being introduced into humans, animal trials would be possible. Pat T.
