Sorry for taking so long in many of the last posts of the WC....
I had to get back into trading to make up for the time spent watching the WC games....
So here I go:
4 - 1 Victory....Today
I played sweeper...was taken down outside the penalty area and scored on a free kick. The players in the summer are all ages but I hope to get back into shape for the fall over 40 league. Today I was the 4th oldest on the field. Most players are in late 20's / early 30's.
Congratulations on the victory and the scored goal.... playing sweeper is one of the most demanding positions in soccer, you have to be in top shape to do well....
That was the position I used to play. A friend of mine and I used to switch positions, we both played either central defense or sweeper, it depended on how fit we were/felt for the particular game, and the actual opponent we were playing.
Be careful playing with the 20 year olds, they are fast. When I started playing again at age 35, I remember going for a chase after a ball, and my brain would issue the order to Kick and or tackle..... and the reaction would not be immediate, so the brain would repeat the order, it is for today, not for tomorrow... and finally the leg would react, at first it caught by surprise this delay in action, and so I had to readjust learning to play with the younger players.
In addition, I never pulled a muscle or had major injuries.... well, they all happened in my second time around... I still remember the pop and the pain of my knee injury...
x y zebra...Thank you for bringing me to the WC 98 thread from the CPQ thread. I have greatly enjoyed the interesting interactions of soccer fans and nationalistic politicians on this thread. I strongly believe one's character can be judged how one plays soccer....it is also true how one is a fan of soccer.
It was a pleasure, and thank you all for participating, I doubt that it would have been any fun to be posting to myself all the time. I was amazed how much enjoyed everyone's commentaries (in regards to the sports ands games primarily), I guess once you are brainwashed into the soccer thing, it will never go away, it is in one's blood.
For a long while I was completely turned off to soccer by the violence and the hooligans..... (regardless of the nationality). I have a strong dislike for .... well, we won't get into that.
I have always been a believer that if you are brought up within a sport (regardless of what kind), you will turn out to be a productive individual, (unless of course the person is a total jerk to begin with, which means the "Jerk Gene" was in over-supply in the first place)..... and that applies regardless of the nationality, color, sex, etc. etc.
There is a saying "Mente sana en cuerpo sano" (I know the original was in Latin (or Greek actually), but I can not remember it now), it translates as in "In a healthy body there is a sound mind".
Now... that does not mean "not being a weirdo....." never mind, I made that up.
Since this thread was a wonderful way for people to be insightful and incite ful in association with their love for soccer we could possible revisit this thread idea for the European Cup 2000. (South America?)...
That is a great idea, since I quit soccer a few years ago, I have only followed the WC, but I think "La copa de las Americas" (America's Cup), and the European Championship, both would be fun to follow, and whatever other International event that would merit coverage like we did in the WC..... In addition, I think the Olympic Games (for Soccer) would fit this bill.
We shall see.... The thread is here already.
The best part of it is..... that there is no earnings, or stock price to worry about in this thread !!.... Only lunatics !.
