Knight and anyone else interested,

I spent about 5 hours on Friday morning at the Arizona Department of Mines. While there, I visited with Mr. Niemuth and one of his associates. Mr. Coggins was in Texas receiving an award for one of his projects relating to publications and research on the history of mining. This was the first time I have visited AZDOM.

They have extensive records and have developed a data base which contains all published information on every section in AZ. If you give them a township and range and a section number they can provide a complete history on any recorded mining activity in that section. I was researching some information on perlite deposits that my company has claimed in AZ.

There is a federal law and a state law that require all producers to report production. There never has been any platinum production reported in AZ. I have also researched all federal mining reports dating from 1883 and also US mint reports from the same time period. There is no mention of Platinum production in AZ. The old federal reports are very detailed. They mention operations as small as " a group of miners producing 6 oz by placer methods."

Given the extend of mining in AZ, it seems strange to me that if there are ore deposits containing world class platinum deposits, why has there never been any sign of them before?
