DELL Expansion

freeus and I toured the expansion sites on Saturday, too, and I hope to have pictures soon. Let's compare impressions.

It would be VERY nice to know what products and functions are going to be concentrated there.

My impressions: DELL is aggressively building here in Austin:

I did not see the old server production facility, but the new one is huge; about the same size or a bit larger than the Metric 12 facility; should increase US production capability by about 40-50%, depending on how many lines it has and what efficiencies it will incorporate. Due on line this fall.

DELL HQ area. Currently contains 3 buildings, DELL 1 HQ and admin;
DELL 2, Tech Support; DELL 3, finance. (Hearsay evidence only.) Current on-going construction apparently will more than triple the current space, whether for admin, production, or some other function, I don't know.

DELL is aggessively recruiting and hiring for buildings, the foundations of which haven't yet been laid, so that they can be trained and hit the ground running.

Employees are upbeat and happy. We met several, both officially and unofficially. On the street, in restaurants, Esther's, etc.

I asked a mid-level executive what he thought of the quote: "DELL will be the DELL of the next decade" -- he said, "True".

My guess: DELL foresees continued excellent growth.

Regards, bachman

PS: Kemble, glad you made it back safely. Was starting to worry. I know you're tired, so will talk to you tomorrow.
