Hello Ike old friend - here's good (Asian) news on your COMS

Enjoy and appreciate your selfless macro econ posts . While browsing I came across COMS rosy outlook on US industry expectations :

" "The networking industry, among the fastest-growing in the world, is expected to surpass annual sales of US$50 billion by 2000, up from US$40 billion now," he said. "The demand comes from ISPs, large corporations, telcos, universities and small businesses."

Mr Rege (of COMS) said the primary driving force was the convergence of voice and data communications over a single network.
"

And on Asia's and COMS future there :

" According to International Data Corp (IDC) estimates, US$2.36
billion worth of networking products were sold throughout the
Asia-Pacific, excluding Japan, in 1997, up 29 per cent over 1996.

3Com led with a 27 per cent market share, followed by Cisco
Systems' 23 per cent, and Bay Networks' 8 per cent.

IDC said demand for networking products in Asean alone is expected to grow 13 per cent per annum, accounting for a US$1 billion market, between now and 2000.
