In one experiment, Karmally and her co-researchers examined the effects of three eating plans that differ in total fat and fat composition. The three eating plans were:
an average American style, with 37 percent of a day's calories coming from fat--16 percent being saturated fat;
The American Heart Association (AHA) recommended plan, which calls for no more than 30 percent of daily total caloric intake from fat, with less than 10 percent from saturated fat;
a low-fat eating program with 26 percent of daily calories from fat--five percent saturated fat.
