david and thread and the public schools ..interesting story on this okay to lie question.
My 15 yr was in choir in 5th grade about 5or 6 yrs ago.
she came home one day and said dad. I can't sing one of the songs they want us to sing . I said, well show me..what's up.
It was song of the yr in 1990 I think. one of the lyrics was "i would lie for you and I would die for you". Anyway, I said let's look in the Bible.
We did and it had allot of places where it was okay to lie and certainly okay to die for someone.
Then I said, now let's look at the context of the song.
In the context of the song it really didn't fit the biblical examples
that we looked at and in fact it looked like it would say it's okay to lie to a teacher or parent about a friend. So, the song was not a good lyric in the context. So, we wrote a letter to the principal outlining
that it might be okay to lie or die for someone but not in the context of this song and we ask the principal if they thought that this song might actually indicate it is okay to lie and set the wrong example.
Well, to our surprise the principal took the letter to the choir director and the choir director said..I never even noticed the lyric that much. We don't want to teach our kids that..so she "rewrote that stanza to say something else" and they sang that. And, My child britt was happy to sing the rewrite.
God, can make a differnce in schools and our kids can too.
Kids that know the bible will change the world we live in.
God Bless
