OASIS Welcomes New Sponsors, DataChannel, POET and Sorman; Membership
of XML Industry Consortium Increases as Interest in the Standard Builds MADISON, ALA. (July 6) BUSINESS WIRE -July 6, 1998--OASIS, the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards, today announced that DataChannel, Inc., Poet Software Corporation and Sorman Information have become sponsor members of the international consortium dedicated to accelerating the adoption of XML, SGML, HTML and other information interchange standards. The new sponsors are all pioneers in the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) and have joined OASIS in a common effort to promote that emerging standard.
DataChannel focuses on development of XML-enabled Active Content Technologies, an emerging class of applications which use XML to deliver active content to all levels of networked computing (desktop, server, Internet, intranet, extranet, VPNs, LANs, WANs).
"DataChannel is committed to working with OASIS to foster the development of XML and the future of the Internet," said Norbert Mikula, director of architectural services at DataChannel, Inc. "OASIS is a premier organization and catalyst to the adoption of XML and related content structured standards."
POET Software provides high performance, scalable object databases for Windows NT, capitalizing upon the combination of its core database competency plus its expertise in SGML/XML frameworks to drive innovative solutions fueled by the XML technology wave.
"POET is very excited about participating in OASIS and helping to develop the infrastructure required to enable XML to open new avenues of open communication and capability on the Internet," says Dirk Bartels, president and CEO of POET Software Corporation. "OASIS plays an important role in shaping structured content standards, and we hope to contribute as much to the adoption and success of XML, SGML and HTML standards as we have with our work for the ODMG standard for Object database management."
Sorman Information designs information solutions based on SGML/XML that support operation, fault isolation and maintenance of high technology systems and equipment.
"By joining OASIS as sponsors, Sorman shows its support for open structured information standards. It is very exciting to actively take part in one of the most interesting technical revolutions ever, which could not, and will not be possible without organizations like OASIS," says Mats Hultemark, marketing director at Sorman. "To see the software industry move from protectionism in data formats into competition with software functionality has been a pleasure."
OASIS (www.oasis-open.org/) is a non-profit, international consortium dedicated solely to product-independent data and content interchange. Focusing on product interoperability, conformance and market awareness, OASIS embraces the complete spectrum of structured information standards including XML, SGML and HTML. Members of the consortium include users and suppliers of products and services that support these structured information standards. OASIS sponsors include Adobe Systems, ArborText, Inc., Chrystal Software, Database Publishing Systems, DataChannel, Folio, Graphic Communications Association, Inso, ISOGEN, Poet Software, <font color="red">SoftQuad</font>, Sorman Information, STEP, Sun Microsystems, Texcel, Thomson, Xyvision and the Yuri Rubinsky Insight Foundation.
