Charles, You are correct on certain points, 2.2 being one of them. But the need to use similar or like gateway components at each end is still a reality due to both (1) preferences due to the desire to pump up product output, a natural tendency, and/or (2) real issues concerning inter-operability and protocol compatibility. This will be the case until there is consensus and critical-mass among providers to begin using the gatekeeper functions as they were intended (I for one am not holding my breath on this one) and until those thorns are smoothed over, there are still only [virtual] point-to-point tie line services in use today, with very few exceptions. To the best of my knowledge, inter-machine tie lines such as those used by the majority of ITSPs today, still demand the use of compatible hardware on each end. I would be very happy if someone told me differently and could demonstrate same, outside of the few highly publicized ones that were recently announced. And even those that were announced are only inter-operable between themselves, and not the majority of other vendors' wares. Regards, Frank C.
