Why would someone go out and buy a G3 Mac *knowing* they're going to purchase a Wintel machine 3 years later?

It gives them time to plan the switch.... Computers are rarely dropped at once, instead they are phased in. But many of your users cannot wait for the their turn to arise, so IS approves upgrades for many, knowing full well that this is the last round.
