Bug, you are right, his departure may mean NOTHING, but in the short run it is NEGATIVE PR. (Cube has no POSITIVE PR dept....everything has a cloud over it) No matter if it was because his mother died or his dog was hit by a car. He was looking for a quick score IMO, a buyout at $40+ by his former(INTC) or TXN when he took the job. Now it looks like ~30 from TXN or whoever. His options would be chump change for all the work invested without a reprice, more vested or more being given,... so he moves on since the board would not likely do him any favors. Also Alex's fat ego hampers any buyout to the Nth so one will never happen. (but I just guessing!!)
