How long before Linus Torvalds replaces Gates as enemy #1?

bootnet.com

boot: How big a factor is Java?

Torvalds: I don't think Java is a factor at all. I think Java has been
overhyped, and I certainly think, I HOPE that Java will succeed. But
at least for the moment, I think the reality that we should look at an
x86 bytecode instead of a Java bytecode. This is where the real
reality is right now and Java has made some interesting inroads
considering that it's only a few years old, but it still needs to
prove itself before. It's not a question of whether I support it or
not. I just think that it's been getting more press than it has shown
itself to be worth.

boot: Would you ever consider working for Microsoft?

Torvalds: Yes. I wouldn't say no to a job just because it's
Microsoft, but it would have to be a real dream job and right now I
don't see Microsoft having that kind of dream job.

boot: Will there be a time where Linux isn't available for free?

Torvalds: No.

------------------------------

Hmmm lets see here...Torvald thinks Java sucks and we should stick to
x86, doesn't think Bill Gates is evil and would consider working for
him, and believes an operating system is worth exactly $0.

Solaris has been beating AIX in the marketplace. IBM is focused on
providing sophisticated e-Commerce software (kind like Open Market
sells). This is where the real money is. Gerstner should make
Torvalds an offer he can't refuse. Then IBM can lead the charge off
Solaris and they can sell Linux Intel boxes.

Oh but I forget...JavaOS, Javatized UNIX--Sun and IBM are bosom
buddies. Yeah, right!
