Actually, it's the other way around. Active Matrix is more expensive and of much better quality. Dual scan is less expensive. Dual scan is still good quality, you just can't view it from the sides as well. In order to see it clearly you must be directly in front of monitor at eye level.

I can't speak for what the starscreen has / can upgrade to. Haven't seen it.
