This drop in Borland shares usually occurs before earning. After earning it can rise like a rocket to $9 and slowly finds its way to $12, until the market finds an excuse to trash the stock again to $7 (hopefully this time the CEO will not give the market another excuse to do so.) You can do like somebody suggested buy some shares over your core position and sell these when the price jumps over $10 and leave your core position untouched.
