This is mega-bogus. Everybody, including Sculley, Spindler, Amelio and Jobs say that Apple had BIG problems, and they really didn't start adressing until barely a year ago, after it posted a $700million loss.
But I guess for an Apple bull a $700 million loss is just a "perception" problem.
No no no, you misunderstand my point. Of course Apple had huge internal problems that needed fixing, ergo the losses, but I believe the media reports of Apple's problems lead to further erosion of confidence in Apple, creating a vicious cycle that only extended Apple's problems. I don't recall seeing IBM on the cover of any magazines touting their imminent demise when they lost billions of dollars in a single year.
I'd be the first to admit that Apple's internal problems have been catastrophic in nature, probably beginning with the decisions to license the Mac GUI so openly to Microsoft, and not to open the market to clone makers before Windows 3.1 shipped. The fact they've come back at all is nothing short of astounding. |
