Dominion Bridge Corporation Announces Appointment

MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 20, 1998-- Dominion Bridge(NASDAQ:DBCO - news; VSE:DMO.U. - news) Dominion Bridge Corporation (NASDAQ/NMS:DBCO - news; VSE:DMO.U - news; ''DBCO'') announced today that Mr. Besim Halef has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Davie Industries Inc.

Mr. Halef has taken full day-to-day control over the operations of the yard. He comes to Davie with over 20 years' experience in the offshore oil and gas construction industry, most recently from MM Industra Ltd. of Halifax Nova Scotia. Mr. Halef also announced the commencement of a Cdn. $7 million modification of the Trump Ship Iroquois. Mr. Halef said ''We are proud of all of the new work we have been able to secure since taking over management of Davie Industries. Together with American Eco, we have accumulated backlog of over $250 million. We are in the process of completely turning around Davie Industries in order to ensure our participation in the robust market for offshore oil and gas construction.'' Mr. Halef also said ''We are examining all strategic alternatives in order to maximize value for Davie Industries and the shareholders of Dominion Bridge Corporation.''

Dominion Bridge, established in 1879, is active in the international engineering and infrastructure markets. Dominion Bridge Corporation's subsidiaries are Dominion Bridge, Inc., Steen Becker, Inc., Davie Industries and McConnell Dowell Corporation of Australia.
