MEMCO Software Joins Microsoft Security Partners Program Highlights MEMCO's Security Products for Windows NT
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.,--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 20, 1998--MEMCO Software (NASDAQ: MEMCF -news), a leading provider of information security software, today announced a relationship with Microsoft to extend and manage the native security architecture of the Windows NT operating system. Microsoft has included MEMCO's premier SeOS (Security for Open Systems) security software as part of its Security Partners Program. MEMCO Software's SeOS is the first and only Windows NT-based security solution that actually prevents security breaches from taking place rather than merely detecting and reporting their occurrence.
''Microsoft is pleased to include MEMCO Software as part of its Security Partners Program,'' said Karan Khanna, Windows NT security Product Manager at Microsoft Corp [Nasdaq:MSFT - news]. ''This program will help our mutual customers develop and deploy secure solutions built on the Windows NT platform.''
SeOS for Windows NT is the first and only product available to actually prevent the majority of today's information security breaches. It is the only proactive Windows NT-based security solution to protect files and resources from unwanted access, even by accounts with privileged access such as Administrator. SeOS renders common attacks to Windows NT servers completely ineffective and relieves security administrators of the nuisance of keeping up with the majority of the latest ''hacker tools.'' SeOS prevents security breaches associated with the unauthorized misuse of the Administrator account, which is a prime target for hackers.
''MEMCO's product suite, including SeOS, delivers tremendous value and solid intrusion prevention for customers of Windows NT and we are pleased to have been invited by Microsoft to join the Microsoft Security Partners Program,'' notes Lawrence Lakis, Product Manager for MEMCO Software's Windows NT-based security solutions.
A GartnerGroup Information Security Strategies (ISS) report published earlier this year about Windows NT-based server security predicted that, ''Through 2000, 80 percent of Windows NT Server security breaches will be able to be traced to administrative or configuration errors.''
SeOS for Windows NT prevents vulnerabilities caused by such configuration errors which pose an even more critical threat to large scale or complex installations of Windows NT. While Windows NT provides impressive network security, SeOS improves it further for large-scale installations in which the Administrator account is a known source of vulnerability to hackers. In addition, SeOS empowers network security administrators to safely delegate daily network maintenance tasks such as the help-desk to other ordinary user accounts without giving away too much authority in the process.
