I had some time today to surf and came across some interesting stuff. I found the site for the Desktop V contract through a DoD search. Dynamic Decisions offers a DoubleCase for $40/case and IDP offers a hard carrying case (did not specifically name DoubleCase, but I assume it was) for $65/case. No mention was made as to which model(s) they were. The only way to verify the prices offered on the Dell BPA is to watch for it in the price lists on the Dell Federal site.

I also found this site (which BTW is available to anyone):

civic.com

This is a site for state and local governments and this article, while somewhat off-topic and lengthy, is titled, "Today's Ruggedized Notebooks Pack a Powerful Punch". It goes on to say that the market for ruggedized notebooks is, "... about to explode". Ruggedized notebooks is a term for notebooks that meet certain standards, mostly Military Standard 810E. They can withstand harsh environmental conditions, shock, vibration, etc. Ruggedized notebooks are favored by law enforcement, the handicapped and public utilities.

If you are going to buy a ruggedized notebook, why not buy a rugged DoubleCase hard-sided case? If you don't have a ruggedized notebook, why not protect your basic notebook with a rugged DoubleCase hard-sided case? Either way makes sense to me.
