Paul, his focus has been and will be the economy not the markets directly.

If the economy cools off too much he risks a recession therefore an interest rate cut. He cannot control the stock market directly although he can to some extent the bond market.

He can say what he wants, which after the damage done on Friday will be nothing, his sole focus will be only to keep the economy on course. With the jobs report and some of the sales data out an interest rate increase is not likely.

No question, if the economy cools enough he will be forced to lower rates.
