"Why should "everyone" maintain a little mini network (Win PC) when in can be done on a remote server."

YOU keep YOUR personal data on a remote server, where it is exposed to plundering and misuse.

I'll keep it on my own PC, stored on an ever-more-inexpensive hard disk.

Data transmission speed? Not even close. I have Cox @Home (cable modem). While I'm more than pleased with average performance that is equivalent to a couple of T-1's, it doesn't come close to that of a modern local hard disk. For web surfing - yes. For loading programs - no.

PCs are now as cheap as we had HOPED that NCs might be. What's the point?

I do think that SUNW has a bright future - as a major supplier of the network infrastructure.

I wish they'd focus on that more, though.
