If we did not export our mining technology to southern climes like our politicians chase us to do we would be much better off.

Of course the English started it in the 30's when they had mined their little island out. But they stopped wisely when they realized they could no longer controll the empiah. We have not figured it out unless you can park the Missouri in the bay and have the admiral smile at their houseguests while your ambassador negotiates the land rights and import/export policy with manila envelopes full of cash, that any other technique fall short of the necessary financial profit advantage that offsets the risks.
