PThing, if it's any consolation, obviously this is getting handled incorrectly. What SI should do for any complaint like that is send out a standard message explaining that javascript is incapable of doing anything like that. It is, after all, the truth. There is no way javascript can go about messing up somebody's hard drive like that. It's simply impossible.

You're merely putting in a facetious message, and gee -- if somebody has an erroneous complaint, based on a misconception, shouldn't we educate them rather than acquiesce?

By making you comply to ignorance, SI does a dis-service to its members who don't fully comprehend technology. Thus, they are furthering the ignorance. Not good for a "tech stock"-based company. Feel free to use my argument, and I'll be happy to back you up wherever it is needed. BTW, if you choose to persue this route, cc: the message to Brad, who is very "tech"-literate.
