We should have our answer regarding the viability of the process. According to an AP story in today's New Mexican the SEC has filed to stop Solv-ex "from representing that it has developed a way to produce bitumen from oil sands on a commercial scale". In another part of the story "The complaint also alleged Solv-Ex said it had successfully tested a revolutionary electrolytic cell capable of producing aluminum. But the complaint said the company's single test of the cell, in 1996, failed."

While they are at it perhaps they could look into the commercial viability of the Clark Hot Water Process that has produced over 100 million cubic meters of toxic pollution in Alberta. Many of the companies that produced it will be required to clean it up and are listed in the US. Perhaps they should be required to prove the reserves that they have established will be adequate in this regard.
