Ok, Let's back up a little.... I was only using the small buisness situation as an example.... Now everyone seems to be feeding on it and missing the real point... I live in the 300 billion dollar company... GM, Ford, and Chrysler Benz are NOT 300 billion dollar companies... At least the last time I checked.... The points, which I seem to have to spell out to you people are:
1. Novell does not fit into a small business situation anymore.. (Which is why I supplied the example...) 2. Novell does not fit into a large business situation anymore... (I.E. UNIX, Windows 95/98/NT, Mac, Network) 3. LESS large companies are installing NEW Novell networks.. They are decommissioning the current ones they have or keeping them alive, but MOST are not rolling out what you people would love to call NOVELL networks... My point is that if you have a TCP/IP network, NOVELL is not NEEDED....
Now let's focus for a minute people... What drives stock prices up... Well here are a few things..... Maybe I should try an example again?
1. People invest their money in the company because they believe the company has long term profitability... These are the people which help to make a stock more stable... I.E. the price goes up and stays there.....
NOVELL has nothing that an invester in Technology would believe to be a good (Sound)long term investment...
Now as for the day trader... He is looking for NOVELL to be at 6 again so he/she can take advantage of market reaction and make some money when it goes back to 10...
2. The company has products that other companies or the public NEED.... Novell does not.... If someone can explain to me why I NEED NOVELL I would love to hear it.... It is not good enough to say NOVELL "Netware 5 Kicks Ass"... or "New Turnaround CEO".... Let's look at why the last CEO left shall we...??? NOVELL could be the best networking OS since UNIX/OS2.... It will fail long term... At least the odds are against it.... I would like to compare it to the Beta/VHS situation... Or maybe the poor OS2 people who had a better OS but a company (IBM) that doesn't know how to market it's product(s)... It is not enough to say your product is better or put a cool name on it like OS2 Warp!!!! Hey maybe "Netware Warp" could help sell a couple more seats.... :^)... LOL... :^)
3. The best way for NOVELL to raise stock prices now would be to trim some fat... I.E. layoff about 3,000 - 5,000 people... Then you might see 15 again... Over if they attached NOVELL to Java somehow... Maybe a ALL Java OS... Oh ya would that help stock prises... Maybe some slick vaporware of somekind with a great marketing spin to kick off at the next COMDEX in chicago... Maybe get all the registered CNE's (I like to call them idiots) together to shoot and squeal about how NOVELL is going to take over the world.. etc.. that's the ticket....
Now I would also argue that companies are still installing NOVELL because of miss precieved need for the product by people who NOVELL has put on their payroll in what I would like to call the NOVELL union card (CNE Program).. This was an ingenious way to get people to pay for training on their product to insure it's longevity in the market... Microsoft has also followed suit.... I.E. These Trained people keep pushing their products..... This was a great scam... Maybe Engineering Colleges should start a new degree instead of Electrical Engineering,... Novell Engineer.... Boy would these poor graduates be in trouble when they got out of school.... I.E. Finding a job...
Now I hire people and I hire people who have engineering degrees.... If you notice the want ads... Thier are less companies looking for CNE certified people because it means nothing.... Novell is going nowhere fast and its stock price reflects it, so get over it... My point is a good software engineer can setup NT/NOVELL/UNIX etc... without any training...
Bye Bye Novell... It was a nice ride while it lasted... See ya at $6/share... |
