Here is yet some more evidence that there is great money to be had in natural gas production in west virginia. This link:

eri2000.com

Is the home page for Equitable Resources (big producer in wv and appalachian basin). Download their 1997 10-K (takes about 25 minutes) and look on Page 38 for the financial results from natural gas production. They are showing an operating income of 28% of revenues. Not too shabby.

But here is the best:

statoilenergy.com

StatOil (used to be Eastern States Energy Group (old longs may remember my discussing them as successfully going after properties abandoned by the majors in WV). In exploration and production they have operating income of a whopping 47% of revenues.

BTW, it looks like $2.80 - $2.90 / scf was the going rate for natural gas in 1997 in west virginia.

Bottom line - if these Stagg reports show substantial natural gas reserves, we are looking pretty in WV. Infrastructure is already there. Three major pipeline companies bidding up the price. Big storage areas nearby (PA & NY). And a ready made market up the east coast.

Gettin' "Jacked"

Eric
