Cable & Wireless Selects Periphonics as Global Group Standard for Speech Processing and Intelligent Network Specialist Resource Platforms

biz.yahoo.com

BOHEMIA, NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 21, 1998--Periphonics Corporation (Nasdaq:PERI - news), a leading worldwide provider of
products and services for call processing solutions used in Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) and Telecom Enhanced Network Services, today
announced that Cable and Wireless plc has named Periphonics Corporation as its global standard for Speech Processing and Intelligent Network
Specialized Resource Platforms.

As the designated global standard for Speech Processing and Intelligent Network Specialized Resource Platforms, Periphonics' products and
applications can be readily selected by any Cable & Wireless companies throughout the world knowing that the stringent selection criteria has already
been met. This will enable enhanced network services to be implemented around the world faster and more cost effectively, which is particularly relevant
when reusable applications are involved.

Periphonics and Cable & Wireless signed a Global Agreement for the Supply and Support of Voice Processing Systems. The agreement is a 'framework
agreement' against which Cable & Wireless Companies can place orders on agreed terms. Built into this Global Agreement is a structured process
detailing the mechanism by which the relationships between Periphonics and Cable & Wireless Companies will be developed.

George W. Cole, Periphonics' Vice President Telcos & Major Accounts, said, ''We are very pleased to have been selected by Cable & Wireless as a
global standard. We believe that this recognition supports our own belief that Periphonics call processing solutions and services are of the highest
standard possible.''

''Appointing a company as our corporate standard requires that it is successful in a detailed evaluation process,'' said Chris Gare, Director of Networks
and Technology, Group Development for Cable and Wireless. ''Before we appoint a group standard, the supplier's products are evaluated to determine
they meet or exceed our requirements. After selecting standards, we continue to monitor their performance on an ongoing basis. This Group standard has
been achieved following many years of close co-operation between Periphonics and Cable & Wireless, during which time many proven solutions, running
on thousands of ports, have been supplied by Periphonics to our companies across all five continents.''
