Numerous companies do high throughput screening including virtually every pharma. What makes ABSC interesting is (i) their patent position on the use of florescent technology is very strong, (ii) they are on the verge of developing what they call ultra high throughput screening that has the ability to increase the speed at better than a 10 fold clip. I know of no other independent company which is even close. whether a big pharma has developed such a capability in house is unknown. With the tremendous growth in targets and huge combinatorial libraries high throughput sceening will become increasingly important and I believe pharma will pay for a system that can deliver a 10 fold increase in efficiency.
