Regarding the article that I linked, the part about excess capacity really attracted my attention. It can serve as an explanation that may be this time is indeed differenct for the semi-eq and other sectors.

We have excess capacity in semis, DD but do we actually have too much capacity in the box makers? Just like the DD sector, there were once 60+ manufacturers. Do we need CPQ, GTW, HWP, DELL, IBM, Acer on and on and on making the same thing? If the demand ever slow, the domino effect may be brutal. Why wouldn't the price wars in PCs reach the same bloody level as the DRAMS?

How many more sectors could this theory apply to?
