Exponential was a private company - (they may have had some Apple financing ) - that set out to design their own version of a PowerPC-compatible chip using Bipolar and CMOS technology on the same die.

Only they died, too, as you know.

Their chip could never reach the 533 Mhz speed that they set as a target. And Apple refused to use the chips that they did manage to produce.

Result - no customers.
