Excuse the typos, Iam in a hurry.
I'll try to offer a straight forward answer for u.
I'll assume ur familiar with accounting, technical ana., fundamental ana., economics, US regulations and HDTV technology.
Well, all the above is currently working against Zenith.
Bad Points ---------- Now the stuff no one talks about.
Zenith is being kept alive by ASIA (S. Korea). LG ele. is preety much the life support that the American comany needs, in fact w/o LG's help no bank would even go near Zenith.
Zenith is plagued by bad management, poor quality, bad design (components are not bad, just overall design) and lack of loyalty (can u blame the consumer).
Zenith is recognized as a American brand. This is not good. Americans in my generations (late 20's early 30's)(especially the educated), would prefer to spend more and get premium imported goods then a half done doemstic product. The trust in American products just isnt there. Japanese and Korean companies that move production to the US keep it AS SILENT AS POSSIBLE.
Product line - Too expensive for a domestic product. Hard to sell domestically.
The wait for HDTV in the US has drained Zeniths resources.
Good Points ----------- However, non Americans love American products !!!! Thank GOD (ACTUALLY thank rich powerful EURO-Americans) that constantly hype and glamourize the American status through the media. This is actually a Great Thing for American Companies. Did u know that Japanese consider a Camero a exotic sports car ($50k)!! Its a peice of junk reserved for HS kids in the US. Its all Marketing...... We can sell anything through the wonderful world of TV/Movie brain washing :>
Zenith holds some critical patents that are valuble.
LG is behind them. At least for now. With the Asian crisis this is very iffy. Especially Korea, many billionaires may decide to withdraw investments here in the us to cover loses or loans in Korea.
PS
CHINA!!!! Dont underestimate them. They may just decide to take over everything. Even if it means crushing Japan and Korea.
Resolution See if Zenith will contract a 3rd party manufacturer. China may be ready for this. See if Zenith will spend money on advertising. |
