It's the dead elephant no one acknowledges laying on the front room floor. The cocktail party continues, everyone sidesteps the elephant and doesn't mention it.

Look at a picture of the earth featuring the atmospheric layers.

You will find it is usually colored. Toward the earth the air is rich and dense. gets thinner toward the top where you will find a very, very thin usually dark blue ring. On the other side of the ring is labeled "outer space":. It is black on the other side of the blue line.

The blue line is billions, trililons, zillions, gazillions of nothing more than 3 molecules of oxygen linked together uniquely for that purpose--TO HOLD IN THE BREATHABLE AIR SO IT DIDN'T JUST DRIFT OUT INTO OUTER SPACE A FEW MILES UP FROM THE TREES.

Ding....ding.....ding......whoooop.....whoooooop......whooooooop
(submarine noise in distress.) Just my theory. It is obvious as can be. Also, not a pleasant subject--no?

Now. What happens outside of the space suit the astronauts are wearing. Say they take it off. They immediately pop inside out.

It's called the something something and what it means is that the huge vacuum of space sucks out anything to try to fill it.

Let's say our Ozone layer is a great big super big balloon. Filled with breathable air. It has holes in it. Hissssssssssssssssssssss.

Sorry. This is not a pleasant subject, but again, tearing down the trees at a psychotic pace, coupled with the fact that we have no permanent thin membrance through which air cannot pass through to the vacuum of outer space, nor can the vacuum of outer space seem to rip it apart from the OUTSIDE......

That's all I know. Just my hunch based on inescapable reality and a small study of the ozone layer and outer space.
