With annual report announcement on August 26 we may see AU$5.00+(ASX) / $60+(NYSE)in the short term.

Interesting tid-bit to add to the Telstra sale discussion.

22Jul98 - Dow Jones Newswires AUSTRALIA GOVT: NO SALE OF TELSTRA BEYOND 49%

The Australian government Wednesday said it will seek to sell its remaining two-thirds stake in Telstra Corp., the country's dominant telecommunications concern in stages, beginning with the planned sale of 16% of the company's shares. This will leave the government with a controlling 51% interest, Communications Minister Richard Alston told farmers at a meeting in Sydney. The government will sell no more than the 16% stake, which will lift the public stake in Telstra to 49%, until it has heard back from an independent inquiry to assess the company's service levels to customers in metropolitan, rural and remote areas.
There will be no further sell down beyond 49% unless this inquiry certifies that service levels are adequate, he said.
