Phil, as I suspected your information is nothing more than supposed conversations. Conversations with retail store clerks and unnamed (once again) Camelot personnel. If I didn't ask, your first post on this certainly would of had us think that you really were "in the know".
Quite the opposite, as illustrated by your lack of apparent knowledge regarding the drop in price of DigiPhone Deluxe. You said: "Reportedly one large discounter (Office Depot) has dropped Digiphone Delux to $30 from $85 to unload it,.." I guess you are not aware that the Deluxe retail price has been $34.95 for quite some time now. If your $30 price is even correct it is probably just on sale. ( And not much of a discount from the $34.95 retail suggested price.) Go to www.mrcdrom.com/ to see the current pricing.
For me, I choose to qualify my comments as "hoping", because I wish to be as honest and accurate as possible. I do base my "hopes", though, on more than you base your "information". My "hopes" that the q report soon to be released will have increased sales of product and services is due to the following:
First, this will be the first quarter that a full 3 months of sales from the Deluxe will be reported. The quarter previous had, at best, 2 months of sales.
Second, this will be the first quarter that sales for their Mac version will be reported. (It began shipping Aug 7)
Third, the adding of free Camelot Internet Access to the Deluxe happened also in this quarter. Also, anybody signing up for CIAS received ver 1.03, and was allowed to upgrade to the Deluxe for an additional fee.
Fourth, before the end of this quarter, DigiPhone was launched in the U.K., hopefully resulting in some sales there.
As you can see, when you focus on the "facts", as illustrated above, my "hopes" of increased revenues from sales of products and service have some logic to it. Not just "blind faith" as some want people to believe.
Finally, I too have done an independent audit of my local computer stores. Unlike your results, mine show that Camelot's DigiPhone and Vocaltec's Internet Phone 4.0 are the two leading sellers. I really wasn't going to mention it, as I hardly feel that it is a "scientific" study or fair evaluation. But then again seeing as it is that which you are basing your "information" on, I guess I should.
I hope this post also serves as a reply to the person who suggested that I have bought Camelot on blind faith and that perhaps I have suggested others to do the same.. Instead, I have always cautioned people that this is highly speculative and one should not mortgage the farm on it. I have always recommended that people do their own research, and not buy or sell anything solely based on what is read here. I do like the reward /risk ratios though. I have spent hundreds of hours testing and using the commercial product and feel as if I am qualified to comment on it.
I will be travelling once again this coming week, so if you choose to respond to this post my silence will only be because of my hectic travel schedule.
