Your right, Herb would be a hard guy to compete with. He knows how
to count. The rest of the industry doesn't. As far as gates go that can be summarized in 1 word... politics. Different cities do different things.

As far a Pittsburgh goes... just say 'Allegeny' just like Charlotte and 'Piedmont'. I don't know if WN has tried to go into to PIT or not but you've got other things to consider than gates; Air traffic control, especially in the NE. The other guys banks, weather delays etc, landing fees. The NE is NOT classic WN and I suspect will tax thier station expense profile significantly. All of which are negotiable.

The most interesting thing to speculate about for the future days of Southwest is what will become of the company Post Herb. (Unless he decides to never retire). Those are going to be some pretty big shoes to fill.

As far a niches go. What we tried at Air South and almost made work , short-haul low fare flying. But maybe I've got an ax to grind.
