RF Micro Devices, Inc. Announces First Quarter Results

GREENSBORO, N.C., July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- RF Micro Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq: RFMD -
news), a leading provider of proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for wireless communications applications, today reported revenue and net income for its fiscal 1999 first
quarter.

Revenues for the quarter were $23.4 million, up 86% from the previous quarter's revenues of $12.6 million and up 129% over revenues of $10.2 million for the same quarter last year. GaAs
HBT power amplifiers dominated shipments. Of note, during the last 12 months, the Company has
shipped more than 10 million three-volt GaAs HBT power amplifiers for a variety of cellular and
PCS handsets. Silicon product shipments also showed strong gains, increasing 38% over the
previous quarter, from $1.8 million to $2.5 million, and increasing 101% compared to the
corresponding quarter in fiscal 1998.

The Company noted that orders were strong, resulting in substantially increased backlog for the
quarter. RF Micro Devices' current backlog gives it clear visibility into the next two quarters, and
current customer forecasts indicate increasing demand over the next 12 months. Consequently, the
Company projects that revenue has the potential to exceed $100 million for the fiscal year, versus
a current consensus estimate of $88 million.
American Eagle sees Q2 dil shr over $0.32

WARRENDALE, Pa., July 21 (Reuters) - Retailer, American Eagle Outfitters Inc. Tuesday said it
expects to report second quarter earnings of more than 32 cents per diluted share because of
better than expected physical inventory results, sales and margins.

If American Eagle's prediction comes true for its second quarter ended August 1, then it will have beaten current analysts' estimates, which lie in a range between 23 cents and 25 cents a share.

In its statement, the company noted that last year during this period, it earned just 5 cents per
diluted share.
