I saw a Windows 98 demo video a few months ago and the demonstrator whizzed over the fact that they had a Voodoo card installed and it really helped with game graphics. Imagine if you picked up Office 99 and it said "Enhanced for 3Dfx." Schwing!!! ;-)

Stuart - your enthusiasm is greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, Microsoft has already unveiled Chrome, its integration of DirectX with the standard windows GUI which will allow developers to do cool things like map web pages onto cubes, tilt folders and windows away from the user, etc. Remember, Microsoft has their own 3D API called Direct3D, which has a fair amount of clout in the industry even if it's not as fast or as cool as our buddy Glide. Above all, they want people to use Direct3D regardless of what video card they have - their goal is to make Direct3D THE standard 3D API that provides cross-hardware functionality at a fast speed.

In short, don't get your hopes up on Microsoft ever touting anything as "3Dfx enhanced".
